Storytelling & Writing...

Everyone has a story because everyone has their own story to tell. Maria has worked for many organisations helping local communities and individuals tell their stories.

Some of the organisations she has undertaken this work with are: NHS, the Library Service reminiscence projects, Letting in the Light, Beth Johnson Foundation (bringing together teenagers and the elderly), Local Councils, Association of Carers, Voices of Experience (Survivors of Domestic Violence), Staffordshire University, to name a few.

Stories can:
give voice to those who are not always heard
connect us as human beings
link us to the past as well as inform our futures
help retain important information that may otherwise be lost

Maria's first consideration for a storytelling programme within a community is an ethical one. Personal stories can be sensitive and powerful. They can be a springboard for change, a source of otherwise unknown information.
Maria is an experienced and sensitive facilitator and understands that the relationship between participants and her is a partnership founded on respect and trust. It is always fine for participants to listen, enjoy and contribute at their own pace.

As a professional Storyteller Maria has a fund of over two hundred stories on her tongue that she can tell to initiate sessions. These stories are myths, legends and folktales. As an experienced facilitator Maria tells stories to open up discussion and to initiate reflection.

The stories connect participants to their hopes, aspirations and personal environments. Stories are the guides within sessions. They are the springboards from which personal stories can be shared. Maria's aim in this work is to empower participants to feel confident to tell their own stories in their own way.

This work can culminate in a variety of outcomes that Maria can help your organisation with: a shared storytelling event, a written publication, a gallery exhibition of pictures and words.

This work can bring divided communities together, help participants understand each other; bring important issues and knowledge to the fore.
